Privacy Policy

Last updated: 29 June 2026

JusticeWiki is a free, non-profit project about making the law understandable to everyone. Privacy is part of that mission, so we keep this simple: before launch, the only thing we ask for is your email address, and the only thing we do with it is tell you when we go live.

The short version

1Who we are

For the purposes of data-protection law, the “data controller” for this site is JusticeWiki, an independent, non-profit project for global legal literacy. You can reach us about anything in this policy at [email protected].

2What we collect, and why

Right now JusticeWiki is a pre-launch “coming soon” page. If you submit the notify-me form, we collect only the following:

DataWhy we collect itRequired?
Email addressTo send you a one-time notification when we launch.Yes
Area of interestThe optional “I'm most curious about…” choice, so our first message can be relevant. No
Country codeA two-letter country code (e.g. “AE”) derived by our host from your connection, to understand roughly where interest is coming from. We do not store your full IP address.Automatic
Browser stringA short, truncated “user-agent” string, kept only to diagnose abuse or technical problems.Automatic
TimestampThe date and time you signed up.Automatic

We do not use advertising cookies, build behavioural profiles, or track you across other websites.

3Our legal basis

Under the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and comparable laws, we rely on your consent (Article 6(1)(a)) — given when you enter your email and submit the form. You can withdraw that consent at any time, and doing so is as easy as giving it (see Your rights). Withdrawing consent does not affect anything we did with the data before you withdrew it.

4How long we keep it

We keep your details only as long as needed for the purpose above — until launch and for up to 12 months afterwards, or until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, whichever comes first. After that, we remove it.

5Who can see it (our processors)

We don't sell, rent, or trade your data. We share it only with the service providers who help us run the site, and only so they can do that job:

6Where your data goes

Our providers operate globally, so your data may be processed on servers outside your country, including in the United States. Where the law requires it, these transfers are covered by appropriate safeguards (such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses).

7Cookies & spam protection

This page sets no marketing or tracking cookies. To stop bots from flooding the signup form, we use Cloudflare Turnstile, which runs a lightweight check in your browser and may store a small amount of local data strictly for that security purpose. Unlike a traditional CAPTCHA, it does not track you or sell your data. Our analytics, if enabled, are aggregate and cookie-free.

8Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have the right to:

To exercise any of these, email [email protected] and we'll respond within 30 days. Every launch email will also include a one-click unsubscribe link. If you're in the EU/UK and think we've mishandled your data, you may also complain to your local data-protection authority — though we'd appreciate the chance to put things right first.

9Security

The site is served only over encrypted HTTPS, and your details are stored in access-controlled infrastructure. No system is perfectly secure, but we collect as little as possible precisely to keep your risk low.

10Children

JusticeWiki is intended for a general adult audience. We don't knowingly collect data from children under 16. If you believe a child has signed up, contact us and we'll delete it.

11Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your data, we'll update this page and move the “Last updated” date. Significant changes affecting people already on the waitlist will be communicated by email.
